SOCKS proxy server is widely use on the Net to hide your IP address and give you all anonymity that you need. SOCKS is acronym for SOCK-et-S or sockets what according to RFC 147 means unique ID where or within (from or to) information is transmitted in the network.

Thus, from point of anonymity most secure is SOCKS4a because SOCKS4a is the only one that do sends the request to the DNS server and because of that SOCKS4a prevent 100% leaking of information during DNS resolving.

- Main different between SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 is that SOCKS4 does not support authentication method and does not support UDP. Socks5 protocol offers more features and if you for example want that UDP work behind socks proxy then you need to use only SOCKS5.
Generally SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 use ip addresses to connect and SOCKS4a uses hostnames what make him most trustworthy SOCKS protocol from point of users who are seeking for absolutely anonymity.
